Shoulder Abduction (Arm Drop Test)
Setup
Client standing or seated. Arms at sides. Camera positioned in front and one from the side. Coach observes scapulohumeral rhythm from behind if possible.
Cueing
Step 1: 'Raise both arms out to the side, palms up, all the way overhead.' Step 2: 'Now slowly lower them back down as slowly as you can.' The 'drop' observation: watch for sudden collapse or hitch between 120-90 degrees (supraspinatus weakness sign). Step 3: Note bilateral symmetry and scapular winging. Pressure: 0/10 (active).
Measurement
Record maximum abduction angle (full overhead = 180 deg). Note if there is a painful arc (60-120 deg zone). If arm drops involuntarily between 120-90, mark 'positive drop sign'.
