Tibial Translation During Squat

Ankle Professional Assessment Kit Compensation Detection ankle

Setup

Client performing a bodyweight squat. Camera lateral view at knee height.

Cueing

Step 1: Instruct the client to squat to their comfortable depth. Step 2: Observe the degree of tibial translation (knee traveling over toes). Step 3: Limited tibial translation with compensatory forward trunk lean indicates the center of gravity is anterior and/or foot/ankle mobility is limited. Step 4: Compare LEFT and RIGHT knee translation if visible.

Measurement

Pattern select: full-translation / limited-bilateral / limited-left / limited-right. Correlate with ankle dorsiflexion lunge test. Limited tibial translation with excessive trunk lean = center of mass issue. Limited with upright trunk = likely true ankle mobility restriction.

Modality

Supported: Remote / Active
Not available: In-Person / Passive
