Breathing Pattern Classification (3 Patterns)

Full Body Professional Assessment Kit Pattern Analysis full body

Setup

Client in three positions: (1) hook-lying with knees bent, (2) seated upright, (3) standing. Observe from anterior and lateral views. Camera at torso height.

Cueing

Step 1 (Hook-lying): Instruct 'Breathe normally through your nose. Do not change your breathing.' Observe 10 breath cycles. Note: where expansion occurs (chest vs belly vs lateral ribs), breathing rate, pauses between phases. Step 2 (Seated): Same observation. Step 3 (Standing): Same observation. Classify into one of three patterns: (A) Apical/chest-dominant, (B) Belly-dominant/paradoxical, (C) Lateral-costal (360-degree expansion). Note any position-dependent changes.

Measurement

Pattern select: apical-dominant / belly-dominant / lateral-costal / mixed-position-dependent. Record breathing rate per minute. Note: accessory muscle activation (SCM, scalenes, upper trap), mouth breathing, audible breathing, breath-hold intolerance. Correlate with infrasternal angle and ZOA findings.

Modality

Supported: Remote / Active
Supported: In-Person / Passive
